Hi there
i followed this advice to cut a few red projects in FCPX
www.moviemaker.com/diy/movies-better-fcp...ilm-workflow-part-1/
I have my original red files given to me on a drive so created alias files in my FCPX project

All was working well until i brought in some ProRes LT original media files to one of my projects

Now my original red files in both projects wont link. And in both projects only proxy mode is available.

I'm scared to try and consolidate in case i end up with double sets of media and more confusion.
Also i've not done it before in FCPX....

Usually i would just keep cutting in proxy mode & relink to originals in davinci when locked, but in this case i wan't to relink to originals to export some sections for VFX work.

I'm an experienced Media Composer & FCP7 editor but a total noob at FCPX - any advice would be great.

First off, this is assuming you are on FCP X 10.1.1 Try this:

Make a new library, and copy all your events to it.

Next go to preferences and make sure 'leave files in place' is checked.

Then drag the folders of your .r3d media into your new event. It should relink everything.

Good luck! Let me know how you go.

Hi Darren, thanks so much for your help.

Yes you are right i am on 10.1.1.
I'm trying what you said but also (probably mistakenly) brought in my audio at the same time & now it's re-analayzing all of that - even though the only option i had ticked was "remove silent channels".

So currently, in my new library (that i copied the events and projects into & then imported my original red into) i'm unfortunately still not able to relink to my originals... It's still stuck on proxy mode.

Perhaps once audio has finished analyzing i can restart and see if that will help?

I tried trashing prefs earlier and that didn't seem to fix things.

(Reason i did that is because I have also been struggling with sluggishness of the app and inability to switch back to my timeline/project after clicking / scrubbing my source media)

I'm on an iMac 27" 3.4Ghz i7 OSX10.9.2 & have 20GB RAM if that makes any difference?

Did you do this while in "Original Media"? If you were switched into proxy mode, I don't believe that would work.

I think that's perhaps my problem - i cannot switch out of proxy mode - every time i try the dropdown box and select optimized/original it won't do it...

I'm very stuck.

Are you able to select the event and export out an XML?

Ah. I have three events - 1. My projects event, 2. the original event or 3. the newly made event with the red media re-imported into it...

Before you do much more, I would open one of your backups from before you added the other footage. It should still be in your backups folder as long as you kept your preferences set to backup.

Just find the backup and double click it, or you may choose "open > Library > from Backup". It will recreate it as needed on the drive you originally had it on.

Then you can try to consulate your originally library if needed.

OK, try this:

Make a new library, and a new event, then copy and paste the contents of your project to a new one in the new library.

If not I will send you a PM and see if I can help you over join.me.

This issue is most likely to do with the red workflow plugin. I've seen this many times.

Wow thanks so much - i really am stuck. Just to clarify - a fresh new Library
and a fresh new event
and then paste the contest of my project timeline (the actual clips) into a fresh new project?

Yes, all this is happening outside your other library so it won't hurt it.

You can try tpayton's suggestion too, but after all else fails. I'm guessing all the media is inside the corrupt library?

Hi Darren - i tried your suggestion - copied my timeline into a brand new library - unfortunately no dice....

Any idea how to fix the red workflow plugin issue you mentioned?

Hi there Tpayton
thanks for chiming in to help!

Unfortunately my backups don't seem to go far enough back.

Tried opening the earliest one & i get a screen full of red "missing proxy" warnings.

I also can't switch back to proxy mode.

This is all so strange as my original media has never moved. It's all right there on the same drive it always was.
