FCPX writing huge amounts of GB to event...help was created by michaelpat87
Hello All
I am new the forum and new to FCPX. I am working on a small project, the video is 20 minutes long. There are 3 video files about 1GB each that I have imported and three audio files that are about 20mb each.
It is a simple video with very few edits, I have added a blue film on top of it for visual effect and added izotope RX noise reduction plugin to reduce background noise. However, I woke up this morning to a notification that my SSD is out of space. I had 75GB free while editing. It turns out that FCPX wrote over 55GB to the event I am working on. I can't figure out why it has written 55GB of space to a 3GB video with only a film and noise effect on it. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it. I eventually had to delete the event manually because I had no space to create anything else or export anything.
Thank you for the help.

If you right-click on the .fcbundle file for the library you're working on and choose "Show Package Contents", you can explore it just like any other folder and that will show you where the files are being generated. Poke around in there and let us know what you find.

If you shoot highly compressed format like AVCHD and optimize the footage to ProRes upon import the file sizes expand to tenfold since it uncompresses it somewhat. Which also might be a good thing depending what kind of machine you're editing on. Editing is smoother, but the file sizes are 10 times bigger. So it is normal and disk space is cheap. And you should always keep your material and Librarys on a fast external drive. And never on USB 2!
