Larry Jordon said it best and I am paraphrasing here, what gets the job done fastest, is the best NLE.

The point is, what is best for you the editor when you need to edit, discussion on market share is pointless and will lead to a bad end.

Avid has a loyal firm base of users, along with Adobe, which is having issues with updating apps, and staying on the cloud, Apple with the buy once, no need to have a cloud account, is a stable reliable will work no matter what you internet connection, is a much more mature way of doing the job of the NLE.

if you like shiny new things, then maybe PremPro, what FCPX is NOT, it is not imovie, and yes I was one of the rabid trolls calling FCPX imovie Pro, when I started getting busy with it, after the update to 10.1, how can anyone stay on a track based system susch as classic FCP or PremPro.

Apple have openly admitted that the 10.0 release was in haste, a total failure, but credit to Apple, the 10.1 and 10.2 releases are brilliant. 3D test is a great tool, the power of the internals to allow such graphic work on a basic laptop is brilliant.

Yes there is much work to be done to improve FCPX, to make it really brilliant, to improve the way you share work between users, is at this point a work around. Maybe why there is no updates for what seems forever...

No clip collisions is worth the price of admission, this alone saves so much time, along with the clip auditions and great mutlicam, drag and drop from the finder, thanks TPayton for the tip, again a brilliant idea. No more complicated importing of material, to drag onto the timeline from the finder..Love it.

The Apple in action page is a letdown and a serious flaw in the PR of FCPX, the previous version of the page for FCP7 aka Final Cut Studio, had text and video, not just text, why there is no video here is a mystery and really I cannot see how hard it would be to create a 5 min edited version...

I bought Final Cut Studio 2 after watching the BBC In Action Video, showing how the BBC used the software.. Apple is relying too much on 3rd party supporters, you and I to spread the word, and I am tired of singing the praises of Apple, and not seeing any changes or updates for 20 weeks or longer...

Updates for NLEs (all of them) used to be 2 - 3 years. Shows how spoiled folks got in a very short period of time.

Drag-and-drop from Finder was there in FCP legacy versions. That's an OS system call, not an app function.

Use what works for you, yes. But the OP was asking about the fuzziness of market share data. None of the big A's want to give that out as blatantly as they once did. It gets them in more trouble than anything.

Apple never pushed their pro apps in advertising, really. They never had to, they still don't have a need to. Just like there's no point in them being at NAB. All they did was tech support for existing users, they didn't pick up any more new users. That came from word of mouth. And anyone with common sense knows that the best way to gain new customers is via existing satisfied customers, "word of mouth".

Hey, I'm a trainer, and we were the front line in selling pro apps at one time, and we paid to have that honor. Apple never gave us anything (well, they used to give us free books and a free license, but not any more). So if having to push FCPX yourself, rather than an Apple rep showing up on demand and arguing for you, try being a trainer. Thing is, we don't whine about it, we just believe in it.

And speaking of promotion, what exactly does Adobe and Avid do to push Premiere Pro and Media Composer? Never seen a TV add for either. Adobe sells the CC cloud suite, not PPro. Avid, well, aren't they sill in financial trouble after all these years? Top Dog, can't get their finances together, hhhmmm...

And I don't see their updates coming any faster than Apple's. Let me re-phrase, I don't see their development and growth being any faster than Apple's.

Finally, one question; What is wrong with calling it iMovie Pro? It works just as great no matter what you call it. A pro version of iMovie is just what FCPX in fact is. Is it iMovie Pro? Yep, sure is, and worth its weight in gold!

Now, someone please retire this thread. I mean, 16 months on the same subject, how many years will we continue hashing this over? 1- There's no solid market data being made public, 2- so it is all speculation, and, 3- well, just OLD and worn out...
