If you have ever tried to move an xml from FCPX to Logic Pro X, you should know that the way audio clips and tracks are arranged is not clear. Usually, every audio clip from FCPX is moved into its own track in Logic.

If you have an editing project with 50 cuts with audio in the primary storyline, you get a 50 tracks Logic Project. Be it.

I have a puzzle for you that may change this forever.

Look at these two pictures. The first one is my Editing Project and the second one is how it appears in Logic.

Why those audio clips in red go to the same track while the others are moved to their own tracks?

I cannot find a single metadata match that could explain it... the only hints I have is that all the audio clips that are moved in the same track come from the same "iLife Sound Effects" collection and are ".CAF" files.

I'm lost...

Yes it's a mess!
Logic apparently doesn't support Roles from FCPX. I REALLY hope Apple will implement this feature in a near future.

If you want support for Roles you can export a project XML and run it through X2Pro. So when you open the AAF generated by X2Pro Roles will appear with corresponding audio within Logic X.

Thanks for your answer Ryan,

I've tried X2Pro and it actually works. Since I'm a trainer I would like to find and propose to my students an integrated solution.

Hope someone will solve the puzzle or that an update will solve it all!

Logic's support of FCPXML sucks, doesn't work, and it totally up to the Logic dev team to fix. I don't see that coming soon, as they have higher priorities than FCPXML support. Don't hold your breath, steer your students, as I do, to X2Pro. Or, just export media stems.
