Problem with Alex4D Grow and Shrink plugin

I had posted this in the plugin forum and got no answers so I thought I would put it in the main forum.

I was testing out the Grow and Shrink effect from Alex4D but I get odd artifacts. The effect makes the image ripple when it is either growing or shrinking. Is there a solution to stop the rippling?

By ripple, do you mean Moiré ?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moiré_pattern

If so, it's not the plugin that's causing it , just physics!

The Alex4D Grow/Shrink plugin is so good, it is worth the price of admission of FCPX just to use it!

With that said, I use it more than any other effect and I probably use it on every project for 2 years, for everything from corporate promos, broadcast spots, to full length films. Never seen any issues ever. It is just using the grow/shrink motion effect so it shouldn't have any problems. I would check and see if it appears on all your footage.

A screen shot would not show the problem. You need to see a video version.

Are you using it on re-timed footage? I have seen this but not all the time. Haven't had time to figure out what the issue is so I revert to key-frames when it's not working.

It sounds like you're describing moire patterns. It can happen if you're using a very high rez image that has a lot of fine patterns (a higher-detailed image has more of a chance to show fine texturing). You can sometimes fix this by applying a very slight gaussian blur which essentially "degrades" the image to smooth over those patterns.

I guess ripple is not the right term. But what I see is that parts of the image move like a ripple. The ripples move away from each other in a square shape. There are multiples of these squares rippling across the image. I will see if I can post a video of it on YouTube so everyone can see what I mean.
