Glitchy timeline action - What am I doing wrong? was created by Redifer
I am trying to drag a clip underneath several other clips. It glitches out like cRaZy. I finally get it lined up where it needs to be. I let go. But instead of parking right where I put it, it pops up ABOVE the primary storyline. If I wanted it above everything else I would have placed it above everything else. Why does FCPX think it needs to go above? I am using the most powerful OS that ever was, Mavericks 10.9.2 on the most powerful Mac that ever was, late 2013 Mac Pro with the most powerful version of FCPX that ever was, 10.1.1.
Check out the video of this happening:
Bottom line: I just want things to go where I put them. That's all.

Try holding the shift key while doing this. I'm not able to recreate the issue. Exactly how many other stacked clips are there?

There are 9 clips beneath the primary storyline and I was trying to add a tenth. I finally was able to get it to work but I had to drag it down layer by layer. Interestingly, after I got it all set up I can now drag a clip below that without a problem.
Nobody is ever able to recreate my problems.

I don't seem to be able to duplicate this problem either, however there was a post from another user recently who had the same issue. Might be related to the series of random bugs in 10.1.1. Hopefully the next update solves a lot of things like that.

I often have trouble dragging a clip down below the timeline. Usually it's when I am holding the shift key to keep the same horizontal position. I find if I let go of the shift key and let the time shift a bit, it lets me drag the clip down, then I just make an adjustment to get it back to where I want it.
I hope in the future they give us a keystroke to move a clip lower in the project, like the keys in photoshop that let me move a layer up and down.
Good luck.

Joe,
That's weird behavior, I agree. Cannot reproduce it either, so I suggest you use the feedback form to report this. This may be related to some of the 10.1 bugs we have been reporting, so this could be fixed in the coming update.
Mark,
Being able to move a clip or a CC or a Storyline up or down by using keystrokes is a great idea. Post this as a feature suggestion.

Have you tried the thinnest track view (ctrl-option-6) and then moved it? I often work in that mode if I don't have any audio to tweak. Perhaps it's bugging out because it also has to scroll the window also. Either way, it's definitely an odd glitch and probably not tested as much because it's below the main storyline.
