I succeeded in uploading master file ProRes 422 to Vimeo. Usually I use x264 codec in Compressor and uploaded the encoded the same file to compare. Of course 4 GB takes longer time. But not so long with broadband. I could see difference less artifacts and crisper clips in the ProRes version. But I do not always trust my eyes so I am interested in what other think. Is there really any benefits or maybe Vimeo will encode with bad tools.

I know that many people use Pro Res and recommend that to others. Although I've done that for very short movies. I generally have been quite satisfied with the 1080 preset (20 Mbps H.264) results. Partly, I use that to save upload time, but primarily because I don't want to bump up against Vimeo's 5 GB ceiling if I'm uploading bigger files.
Of course, they re-encode whatever you give them. So theoretically, the Pro Res would fare better.

Thank you Russ
I make very short projects, almost never longer than 4 minutes. So time and space is not an issue as plus member.

Did Vimeo complain as you uploaded the file? They complain when my 25mbps bitrate for an MP4 "looks like it's too high". And this is the paid-for Vimeo service as well. And the lack of different resolutions they offer is ridiculous. 480p and 720p. That's it. OR you can have 1080p but no 720p. I hate pretty much everything about Vimeo.
