Chapter list (or marker list) export?

Hi Kurt,

I searched my old archives to look for the "Chapter Code" but couldn't find.
So I decided to write a little QT Player script and modify the XTL app a bit.

In XTL now also frames are supported. So switch to frames in FCP X, extract all chapter markers and save to a chapter text file.
Export the movie (with chapters checked).
Open the little script app, select movie, chapter file and target folder.
The ref movies will be named movieName_counter_chapterName.

In FCP X prefs switch to display frames instead of display hh:mm:ss:ff.
In XTL now also the frames are 'captured'.
So now now with a sequence start tc of 10:00:00:00 will frame 0 and a chapter will be displayed as
0 chapter 1 (means the first frame of the movie)
instead of 10:00:00:00 chapter 1

There is no FCPX for ipad and therefore I cannot make screenshots.

Andreas, your a genius :woohoo:

In movieChapterSplit, in the 2nd pop up window where it asks for 'choose a chapter file', I selected the saved txt from X-Type List.
Not sure if I did that correct or not but it seems to work fine.
I ended up with 167 separate chapter ref clips.. I then ran them through media encoder and made all AIF files (this project will eventually be a series of audio CD disks).

These little apps you make are all excellent time savers..

Here's a thought on an app I always wanted to make (but I dont know how) for FCPX

Using the same idea of a floating window like X-Type List,
have that floating window hold a dozen or so boxes or smaller windows.
Each one of those windows is a customizable keyboard short cut.

So now, you basically have FCP7's old button bar.

The only thing is that the little boxes would need to be also able to import (change into) very small icons or something so you could tell what button is what.

I know I'd buy that app.. I have a few keyboard shortcuts remembered, but for the most part I need to keep going into the title area (i made some keyboard shortcut titles in motion for FCPX) to find shortcuts..
In FCP7 I had that whole bar area, from left to right, full of buttons!

Thanks again Andreas,
From the time i posted this post, and the time it took you to make these little apps, I would still be copy/pasting chapter names into my AIF clips!

Hi Kurt,

An app like that is definitively doable – but thats beyond my programming skills.

Ahhh too bad..
I did find an app called CheatSheet
you press the command key for a second or two and all the shortcuts for whatever app your using will pop up
you can then click on any of the shortcuts and the command will execute in the app.

Not like a button bar, but better than nothing i guess..

thanks again

Hello Andreas,

Very handy app this X-Type list. It works really well.
The script produces an error. I reckon it is due to the fact I'm running 10.9.5 instead of 10.8?

I too have to export separate clips from the chaptermarkers. Doing this manually takes a lot of time. When done according to the client wishes it also needs to have a fade-out at the end. But I would also be helped with separate clips without fade-out.

Is there something I can do to get the script working?
The error message is: this script is damaged. cancel of move to the trash.

Hi,

I'm joining this topic quite late however I'm hoping I can get some help. I'm trying to you X-Type List to export markers I've created. However I have 2500 markers (I'm subtitling a tv episode) and first off it takes a supremely long amount of time to in the end create an srt file that only has the first 18 markers. I checked console and it looks like the program gets interrupted with this error: 9/13/16 8:48:47.447 PM X-Type List[12416]: "System Events got an error: Can’t get window 1 of application process \"Final Cut Pro\". Invalid index.". The next time I tried, console showed 9/13/16 8:48:47.796 PM X-Type List[12416]: BUG in libdispatch client: kevent[EVFILT_MEMORYSTATUS] add: "Operation not supported" - 0x2d and 9/13/16 8:48:47.864 PM X-Type List[12416]: assertion failed: 15G1004: libxpc.dylib + 78286 [54D1328E-054E-3DAA-89E2-375722F9D18F]: 0x89

So my question is, is there anyway to either speed up the process or make it so that it can run in the background. Or barring that is there a way to instead export fcpxml and have that converted to show what an srt file would.

Thanks

Is this app still working with FCPX 10.4? I can't seem to get it to work.

Thanks!

Only works for <10.3
Use XTI and its Extract Marker feature.
