Field Order Question was created by Andreas Kiel
An interesting thing came yesterday on the german
www.finalcutprofi.de
forum.
A user had a clip where inside the clip suddenly the field order changed. The parts was easily found.
Now the big question: How to change the field order of a part of a clip.
It was easy with FCP – obviously not with FCPX cause this effect is missing.
First idea was to transform those parts by 1 px vertically, that didn't work for the OP. Changing the field order in Inspector also doesn't make sense since it always affects the whole clip.
I created a simple stupid effect in Motion for a 1080 source to shift the affected clip ( www.spherico.com/filmtools/X-Files/X-FieldShift/FieldShift.dmg ).
Interesting thing is that 1px in Motion is 0.1 px in FCPX. This raises some more questions about template usage in FCPX.
I haven't used interlaced material for years, so I got nothing to test except fakes I created with AE.
Using those the thing was that the clips have to be set to progessive without de-interlace.
Using transform instead of the effect seems to be a bit more blurry.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Use the field dominance override setting in the info panel?
If needed duplicate the clip and only change it on the duplicate.

Yeah... i have the same issue. Sometimes i get edited files and sometimes it's made from different source. Let's say in the middle of the clip is shot with different field order - in fcp7, you could just cut the segment and change field order with shift field filter, now in fcpx you can't do that. You can change field order in info tab, but that is change for all clip source, not segment. The was suggestion to duplicate clip on top... and it doesn't saves you, cause if you change filed order in duplicated clip - the source of clip is the same, so you changing field order for both of them. One option is to duplicate file in finder and import it to fcpx, change field order and place it one the original source.... but it's time consuming. Does anyone have other suggestion or filters for fcpx like it was in fcp7? Thanks.
