Hello, sorry if this has been covered. I've read everything on the net that I can and still no help. I ingested footage, logos, music, etc and edited 3 videos for a client on my personal external hard drive. The client has since purchased there own. I finished the 3 videos and now I need to move all of the files, xml, etc. to their new hard drive. I copied all of the assets (footage, logos, music, etc.) folders to the new hard drive. I then copied the 'library' over as well. When I open the project on their new hard drive all of the files are missing. What am I missing? Do you have to reconnect? I really need help for I need the space back and don't want to delete clients assets off of my hard drive until I can connect to the projects on their hard drive in case they want changes down the road. Thank you for your help.

Sounds to me you need to re-link the media on the new drive.

I know that people here use the consolidate command in FCP X and then move/copy all that to your new drive.

Someone here will advise you on the best method.

Consolidating to a new drive would have worked, yes. However, one disadvantage to that is that it dumps all your footage into one folder. Some people like to organize their media into subfolders, but this isn't strictly necessary.

Make sure your old drive is disconnected. Load the library on the new drive. Select the library and go to File->Relink Files. You can leave it on "Missing." Click on "Locate All" and you'll just have to point to where that file is. A lot of the time, it will automatically find everything after that.

Hi. I have had this problem many times and it stems from not duplicating the original source material to the Final Cut Pro X Folders, always choosing 'Copy files to final cut event folder' and making sure everything is saved to the same hard disk will help prevent this, I find always using external drives also help. Then when you come to duplicate the projects and events from one drive to another all you have to do is drag and drop both the event and project files. Hope that helps.

Hello and thanks for the replies. It's too late for I did not choose to 'copy files to final cut event folder' I have to move over 600gigs of footage the all three of my end videos are pointing to to another external hard drive and deliver to them. I have made xml's and xto7 for any future editors on PP but I just know they will come back and want me to tweak something. I cut everything on my HD1. I now need to move everything over to their HD2. I have changed nothing in all of the files, assets, naming, etc. If I copy everything over from my HD1 to their HD2 plus library can't someone else's, or mine for that matter, in the future be able to reconnect and work on the edits on HD2? Sorry to be so iffy on this but once it is moved there is no back up.

So I copied entire folder of all assets to new drive. Moved Library to new drive. Opened project in FCPX with only new drive connected. All files are missing and I cannot re-connect. Please help.
