Marker OverlayS?

Marker OverlayS? was created by grailz
I'm working on am assembly edit for a short project with an interview and I could use some insight from you all.
I've taken my interview clip and laid it to my primary storyline. Beneath that clip, I've added a placeholder that spans the entire length of the interview as a connected clip.
As I find the snippets that I want to lift from the primary storyline, I add a marker on the connected placeholder below and in that marker i insert the dialogue from the script to let me know what I'm looking at and the order that it comes in the script. (so for the first snippet, I add a 1 even though temporally, its the third marker on the placeholder.)
This is the first time I've used markers in FCP X to navigate with however and I'm not seeing the functionality I expect. Specifically, I don't see a way to toggle the onscreen overlay for the markers on and off.
I'm thinking this is something that hasn't been added back in yet but I'm asking on the off chance that its something I've overlooked.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Seems like a convoluted way of editing, but if it works for you, that's good. Personally I'd use Notes in the Browser, then edit from there, and also use the Timeline Index as a helper.
I'd not just dump a bunch of stuff into the timeline and start rearranging, I'd organize with notes and keywords in the Browser first. That way 1- I'm much more organized and can find what I need faster, 2- It forces me to have all my media memorized so I know the big picture before starting.
As for markers, there is no Viewer overlay at this point. We use the Timeline Index now. Much more efficient.

Ben,
Holy crap! You're absolutely right! That was very convoluted. I didn't mention it, but I had audio that I needed to sync and did not think about synchronizing the clips as a compound clip. Because of that I didn't even stop to consider that I might be able to use favorites to organize everything. Was firmly rooted in a Legacy State of Mind.
I'm glad you mentioned your workflow.
Oh, one other thing:
Didn't realize that I could rename clips in the timeline index. That is a major, MAJOR time saver over using markers. I greatly appreciate the help!

Glad it's working out for you! I'll share an example of a recent workflow here, just FYI:
I recently had a project where I had about 60 minutes of footage, that was to make a 5 minute promo video. It was DSLR 7D footage, all audio was recorded separately via an Apogee Duet, a Sennheiser MKH 416-P48, on a MBP directly into FCP X. I had to sync all of that stuff first. Imagine, I have dozens of takes in both audio and video originals, I'm about to double that with Compound sync's, it's going to be a mess.
1- Create Smart Collection for Media Type is audio only.
2- Create Smart Collection for Media Type is video with audio.
3- Create Smart Collection for Text Contains "Sync".
4- Create Smart Collection for Text Contains "Scene #".
Of course this last step I did a "Scene 1", then a "Scene 2", etc, for all 5 scenes in the script.
Then, as I am sync'ing my clips, I'm renaming them in the Browser Scene # for both audio and video. The Compounds sync's I name "Scene # Sync".
By the time I was finished sync'ing my clips, they were automatically organized for me. Way simple.
Think about this. In other NLE's, you have to create Bins anyway, then manually drag-and-drop each clip into the Bin you want it in, every single last one of them, MANUALLY! And if I want the same clip in more than one Bin, I have to manually duplicate it, and manually drag-and-drop that into the other Bin. I used to do that, I prided myself on how organized I was, and how fast I could do all of that. Not anymore... (sigh) I'm in media management heaven...
The rest of the edit, I knew what was where. I start by going to the Scene 1 collection, click the column header for Content Created to sort them by time, as they were shot in chronological order (lucky me). I start to review my clips, making ranges of the useable stuff in each as Favorites. Then, change the filter to show only Favorites, I start dropping them into my Timeline in order as rough cuts.
Then I drop in the background music (this was a hair and makeup promo for a company here that does it for film productions).
Then I start at the beginning of the Timeline. Hit "T" for my Trim tool, down arrow to get to the first edit point, forward slash to preview the edit, trim it up, preview, trim it, preview, when it's perfect, down arrow to the next edit point. I never touch the mouse.
Left/right brackets select the side of the edit you want to ripple.
Forward slash next to them selects the whole edit point to roll.
Greater/Lesser Than (comma/period) moves that edit type left/right one frame at a time, hold down to go faster.
I never touch the mouse to trim, and trimming AFTER a rough cut goes much faster, as you can't really trim during a rough cut for so many reasons.
Enjoy the new paradigm. Always remember rule #1 when using FCP X, "Leave everything you knew about FCP 7 at the door!"
