Hey guys,

Finally made the move from FCP 7 to X and I have run into my first problem. I use FCP allot to create video mixes and most times i use still images to accompany the music.

In FCP 7 I would drag in usually a 1900 x 1600 image, and if i need to adjust so be it. I would then render the image to the project settings and in doing so the image would be able to stretch and have no pixelation but in X I cant see an option to render the image in the timeine and currently every HD image i drop in is very pixelated when i preview it on full screen. Im assuming i need to render the image in the timeline somehow?

Can anyone help me out here :)

Thanks

What are your playback quality settings – are they set to high quality?

What are your project settings. Also are you seeing the pixilazation when zoomed into image?

I normally import my images at 3600 wide. Larger files but more flexible as far as scaling. What format are images: JPEG, png, or other?

Only other thing I can think of is if you applied some filter/effect that didn't finish rendering.

Most of the pics I use is 1920 x 1080,

As you see in the pic i had it set to 720p and by changing to 1080p it allowed me to have 1920x1080p which has fixed the problem for me. click here for pic - i59.tinypic.com/2exa2ic.png

When i preview the clip and its on full screen it is slightly blurred but if i hit spacebar and stop playing the clip it becomes clearer and better quality, just slightly.. whats with that.

Just to add to this in terms of video and not still images, in fcp 7 i would always have the project settings at 720p because most of the video clips i use was also in 720p. So if i use 1080p for future projects even though only 20% of my video clips are actually 1080 and the rest 720, will this have much of a negative result on the final project?

Thanks again

In the upper right corner of the viewer, where you adjust the image size window, there is another button if you press that it will reveal playback settings.

Not near computer so sorry for not being able to recall what this is called.

That would be the setting for "high quality" as opposed to "better performance" that is selectable in the viewer menu.
You should also check that your image is set either to "fit", "fill", or none (meaning the original size as applied to the project frame size". This is located in the video inspector under the spatial conform parameter.

FCPX will degrade the image on purpose to get it to playback smoother, which is why during playback it can look fuzzy, but clear when you stop playback. Normal, has no effect on your export, the images are full, clear resolution.
