Issues with Compound clips was created by Makki
Brand new Mac Pro. FCPX 10.1.1 External: LaCie d2 Thunderbolt & USB 3.0
I use to work a lot with overlays, sometimes 6-7 different clips on top of each other all with different color grading. There is no problem render those clips or play is smooth. When I convert them to Compound clip, it barely manage to render the clip and it get worse when I ad dissolve between 2 compound clips. After extremely slow render, when playing back it stutters a lot. When I try to brake apart items this option is grayed out. I have done all the usual tricks even reinstall FCP X.

Before putting stacked clips into a Compound Clip make sure the stacked clips are unrendered. Re-rendering a CC that has rendered clips inside it can be problematic. This was also the case in earlier versions of FCPX.
It is also good practice to regularly delete all your render files or only the unused render files. Makes FCPX run much smoother.

Thank you Rony for quick answer, I just rendered as you said, so that could be the issue, but I almost addicted to render
I will do some test.

Hi Makki,
On the new MacPro you hardly ever need to render, except when you need to view very complex compositions in RT and full quality. Render files can be troublesome, especially with clips that have been re-rendered a few times. That's why it is always good practice to regularly refresh your render files.

So I must get rid of this addiction. But I wonder why the brake apart option is grated out. The reason I make a compound clip is that seems the best option to make dissolves or is there another method ?

When you apply certain actions to a CC you won't be able to use Break Apart Clip Items anymore. Retiming a CC can cause this to happen, I don't know if adding transitions would cause this as well. But you still should be able to open the CC in its own timeline.
