Additional Content? was created by cgbier
Just got my new rMBP today and started downloading all the software needed. However, we have a pretty slow internet connection here in the 3rd world, and it would take days to download all the extra content for FCP X, Logic, GarageBand, etc.

Can I just copy those libraries over from my old computer? Where would I find them?

Thanks in advance.

Claus,
Yes you can! This is assuming the versions of each of the apps in question are the same and you already downloaded the content and of course you still have access to the old drive.
Each app stores these in different sections of your main system drive originally called MacIntosh HD (you may have renamed it) Audio files have their own folder. (Logic, Garage Band)
First your Library may not be visible, if so press down on the Option key to see it in Finder Side Bar. I always reset Library to visible via Terminal. Make sure you are in the main hard drive Library not your user library. Most of the needed files will be found in MacIntosh HD>Library>Application Support>(Application Name) If helps if you know what addition content files and folders are named. Look on Apple site. If you are sure you have the same versions, you can do a comparison of the folders and then just replace the folders with the ones that contain the extra content, or otherwise just add the files. You can also use your old HD as the content drive and link to it. Putting on external drive saves space and may speed up system.

Instead of walking you through it, here are a couple of sites to check out including instructions for moving content and creating "aliases" for indexing/pop-up access purposes…
music.tutsplus.com/articles/how-and-why-...l-drive--audio-19567
Tuts has some other tutorials like this one on Logic instruments, but it makes a couple of mistakes re aliases…
computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-...ernal-hdd--mac-52571
Then there is this from Logic Pro Help see answer from Splunk, but I think this is better process; first copy folder/files to new drive, then create and make your aliases in each location before closing window and removing the original files, then trash the original files/folders then change alias name by removing "alias" from name. Make sure that the replacement alias is in proper location. Hold off emptying trash until after testing.
OK here is link…https://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=97481
For Motion 5 see this Apple kb…

FCPX same type of thing.
Hope this helps, Greg

p.s. I really do not like to use Migration Assistant as it copies lots of junk and is not selective enough for me. But to each their own, "said the old lady as she kissed the cow".
