For the love of God, please help with Multicam Editing and selecting a single audio source. was created by Shinyhead Music
FCP Fans,
I implore your help. I will admit I haven't done as much searching for the answer as I could, but with no help from several video tutorials, or extensive reading of the apple help menu, I am turning to you. My frustration is high, so I am very appreciative of any help.
I have imported 2 audio/video camera clips and a stereo mastered audio track in FCP X 10.1.1. I've selected the three items in my library, and I've created an automatic Multicam Clip. So far so good.
Now, I can use the angle editor to make my rough cuts. That's great. However, FCP X is identifying one camera as A/V, one as V only, and my audio-only track as a video track (with the associated green, yellow, or blue outline colors in the angle editor). I've selected the blue "edit video only" icon in the angle browser.
If I go to the timeline and double click, I can see the three separate items on the timeline, one atop the next, and deselect audio from the one camera and select audio from my audio recording. Great.
But now, I am unable to return to my multi cam edit. It seems to be lost, and nowhere to be found.
My question is this:
How can I make my multi cam edit with the proper assignment of audio from ONLY the audio file, and switch ONLY the video between the two video files, when FCP is not identifying the files correctly?
Please, I am at my wits end. I'm sure there's something silly I have neglected to do, but I can't for the life of me figure this out.
With Thanks,
Dave

This is one of the most detailed QUICK START crash course on multicam...
Ben Consoli did this presentation in Boston it is very good.
It seems you ended in the Angle editor instead of your timeline …

OK - I've come off the ledge, and figured out the problem. I'll just post it here in case anyone gets hit with the same stupid stick I was.
The "Video + Audio," "Video Only," and "Audio Only" selectors in the Angle browser are used to ASSIGN the type of clip each is. I was under the assumption they selected the TYPE of editing you were doing.
Solution: Select each clip in the Angle browser, then use the icons to assign the type for each associated file. In my case, 2 video only, one audio only.
Thus endeth the duh.
Thanks.

I will certainly watch this... You'll see I figured out my own issue below, but obviously, further study is required.
Thanks!

I may be misunderstanding you, but here goes. You have the basics figured out, somewhat. No need to select each and every clip and assign a clip type, no. You are not assigning clip types, you are configuring what does and doesn't get cut when you do an edit. Nothing to do with "clip type", but with "edit type", or cutting type.
Turn on V+A, select your audio only clip.
Switch to V-only.
Now when you make cuts you are only cutting video angles, not audio angles. Audio will stay on the last clip that was selected before disabling audio cutting, regardless of what type of clip it is.
But you're on the right track, just seem to be over complicating things.

I have a bit of the opposite problem currently, how do you get audio from more than one angle at the time?

In the audio inspector select all the audio channels you could like. Then expand audio components and adjust to your liking.
