Select a Range(in & out) points on storyline

Hey, found an interesting problem, i was editing a short clip, and i wanted to insert a clip from an in point in the clip to an in & out point in the timeline. The thing is that, that part of the primary storyline is empty, there's nothing there, no gap clip or a clip i laid out earlier, it's still as it was when i opened the project. Now the problem is, that when i try to set an in or an out point, nothing happens. You can't select a range of an empty part of a storyline it seems. And ideas, workarounds or something else?

also can anyone confirm that it can't be done, so i know it's not an issue on my machine

thanks :)

You're right, you can't select a range on an empty part of a timeline.

But if you put the play head where you want the clip to start in the empty timeline. Select The part of the clip you want in the browser, you can then insert or overwrite to that point

Backtime Overwite and Backtime Connect works. I guess there's nothing to ripple so no need for insert

backtime overwrite will work, but it will destroy the cut before it. I know i can backtime connect and then shorten the top of the clip but that's just silly really

Yeah. There's no back time insert in any other part of the timeline either.

I guess the only other option is to have a large gap clip in the blank bit of the timeline so you can sent a range. Or select the exact duration you want in the browser and insert into the blank space
