Secondary storyline with overlapping clips

The secondary storyline is a great tool, but it seems a bit restricted in that you can't place video clips over each other on the vertical axis. Is this an actual restriction or have I missed something? How can I edit my clips as usual (which involves a lot of stacking clips on top of each other) within a confined environment which stays locked to a certain frame on my main music track?

You can make a compound clip. The compound can be an unlimited number of layers vertically and take only one layer in the project.

Maybe you are in need of the Position tool, p on your keyboard. You can then freely move stuff around

I think a solution to your problem would be to create another storyline on top of that and then connect it to the other secondary storyline... but that's not possible so... submit feedback?

This would work for many situations, however, I want to do stuff that heavily interacts with clips on the main timeline (for example having a video clip and a title sync with the music that's placed on the main timeline). Here, you could just make a compound clip containing the music, the video clip, and the title, but when doing music based edits, you usually want to have your visual material as a secondary timeline, since you otherwise can't take advantage of the magnetic timeline (individual video clips will bind to certain places in the music track).

Using this feature within a secondary storyline only overwrites whatever material that previously occupied that space (rather than stacking the elements on top of each other vertically).

That would be a nice feature to have in some cases, but it wouldn't work for my specific problem. I would like to have something that worked like the main storyline in that elements on top of other elements adjusted to changes for the elements beneath them (for example, if you have a title attached to a certain clip, it should move along with that clip if its position within the storyline changes).

Well you can stack as many clips as you want, but they all have to be connected to the primary storyline currently. If you need your music to be synced at that point, you can move the attachment point to where it needs to sync with the picture (I do this a lot when I need a certain section to cut to the beat, for example). Usually I will cut off a piece of music on either side so it can be an isolated piece, and then change the connection point.

I see what you mean, though, about being able to attach to secondaries. It would be great to be able to attach both audio and video to a secondary. It would make timelines like the branches of a tree.

Yes initially I thought it a bit silly to want to attach to secondary but now on a few occasions I find myself wishing for that feature.

Especially when doing titles on the secondary timeline.
