FCPX to Avid - possible?

Hi all,

I have a doc project that I'll be cutting in Avid in the summer. My director and I both like X but it's not possible to cut on this for long and torturous reasons...

BUT is there a way we could extract data from X in any meaningful way that might help in the edit? I'm thinking pre-selects an favourites. Even if it's on paper it might help, as the director can view and log footage in X and we can use that data in MC...

Ta,

Jason

Not sure if it's still around but there a program that would create an EDL from FCP X.
Avid can import EDLS to create a basic timeline.

You can also import FCPX XML in DaVinci resolve and export an AAF from resolve to use it in Media Composer.

Thanks chaps - I was thinking more along the lines of something that might convert favourites into some kind of sub clip, or use keywords as bins or supplemental information (notes that can be searched or indexed in Media Composer)... guess I'll have to resort to good old paper!!

Favorite as sub clip and markers follows would even be a good thing between X to 7 !

The big problem is that keywords aren't really bins, although they're both used to organize. You can only put a master clip in one bin at a time, whereas a clip can have multiple keywords attached which is their primary advantage. So Xto7 or a theoretical XtoAvid would have to figure out a way to do that translation, and I don't think it would make sense. Favorites as sub clips and markers are not too hard to do, though.

You're definitely right that using X for looking through footage and making favorites and keywords is way faster than the old-fashioned Avid way, but I don't know of a good way of carrying that through. Your best bet is to just do it the old way, which is make sub clips and then make a few stringouts of selects. Also, you can puts notes in a scene or takes field and can search with that.

EDIT: Forgot about cloned master clips, which is possible in Avid. You could put each clone in a different bin. So I guess it probably IS possible to make keywords as bins, and keyworded ranges would be sub clips. Or you could just do a sub clip of the entire clip, which would act essentially like a cloned master clip.
