Hi all
I'm not a highly experienced editor - I've done simple things lots.
FCPX just can't see any of the footage on one of the SD cards from our shoot the other day.
We were shooting on XDCAM onto SD card.
I took the card to import it directly into FCPX and it simply didn't import. I copied all the content from the card onto an XHD just in case.
I now can't see the files to import them when going through FCPX, even though I can see them on the hard drive. They are still in the BPAV folder format on the disk and seem invisible to FCPX. I really need to get this sorted as soon as possible, so I would be very grateful for any advise as to how to get these files into my timeline. I'm sure there's vital info missing from my description so please ask and I'll tell you what I know.
Thanks

If you have several cards with similar footage that work, but this is the only one not working, then there may be a problem with the card.

If this is the only card from this camera, then you probably need a plugin or some XDCAM transfer software. This may help...

Thank you.

It's acting very strangely, though when I try to look for the files on the XHD it suddenly links up and I can work with it. I'll continue to work with it like this and if I need to buy the software you suggested I will. Thanks again

The import software is a free utility from Sony. Importing from my Canon XF100 similarly requires a plugin from Canon. But, if it *ever* works, then you have what is needed to import. So if it's working intermittently, you probably have a non-FCPX problem.

The Sony XDCAM plugin is free. The BPAV folder on your external drive appears as a camera card in the import window. When you select the folder you will be able to import the files.

More information about importing XDCAM in FCPX can be found here: support.apple.com/kb/ht4724

Thanks all
I had imported normally with the SD card showing as a camera in the import window, the problem was that with some of them (but not most) I would select import as normal but the window would close without starting the import. I think it is a non-FCPX problem, but I was hoping that there would be another import method/program that was more stable than the normal one I was trying.
Anyway, it seems to be temporarily linking so I can work with it.
Thanks for the support though guys :)
