Hi All. New here and grateful for all I have learned from this site.
I am trying to create an effect of panels of video (picture in a picture) moving in and out for transitions. The look I am trying to get is what I saw on American Idol. You can see an example of the effect I am looking for at: .
Any suggestions on how to make this effect? Or is there one out there that would do it?
thanks,
dale.

Well. I kind of figured out how to do it. Took some hacking away - but I will share.
I used sight creations free "Dividers" element. (click here to see and download it for free)
Then I had to use a mask effect to get the clip within the borders.
Then the last trick: creating a compound clip of the clip I wanted to move with the border. After the compound clip is made I then can use transform to keyframe the movement ---the clip with the border.
Seems to work for me. Maybe there is an easier way.
Here is what I was able to do. It uses to compound clips of the different panels that come in.
Hope what I wrote makes sense.

There are a few of these in the free templates section of FCP.co. Done more easily in Motion as an effect, transition, or generator template for FCPX. Faster and easier to repeat it over time.
