If an effect or other plugin is created using FXPlug scripting, and/or Quartz Composer, it is doing things not possible directly in Motion, and won't be able to open in Motion. Not necessarily "locked".

Hi Kurt,

That is correct. It is what Mark Spencer said in an earlier reply. In fact I was looking at one of the tutorials for Ripple Training's Callouts and they mention it there too. Apparently it is impossible to keyframe a control point in FCPX. So what you are seeing is just the animated movement of the OSC icon, but as soon as its keyframed position is driving a control point, the animation is broken.
I understand that in Callouts they have marked all parameters that are controlling shape control points with underscores in their names to make you aware of the fact that you can't animate them.
I think the same is happening with other 3rd party plugins too.

They are aware that in previous versions, other than FCPX.1 (or mavericks), this was NOT broke...
so if I understand correctly, that now this is expected behavior?

How are you suppose to animate them?

What is the difference in the arrow that you made earlier, where it CAN be animated with keyframes?

thanks
Kurt

Control points in Motion could never be keyframed when published to FCP X. It's not something that used to work and now doesn't.

You are changing the scale and rotation of a shape - you aren't changing it's control points. Those are what allow you to make the arrow longer or shorter without any distortion - or do more sophisticated things with shapes that have more control points, like animate the shape of a mask. Go into Motion and check the Inspector for the control points parameters.

We were talking about 2 different things... I was talking about OSC not control points in motion. However what you mention about having distortions is what I ran into when building a title in motion, but squidfx seems to get around this somehow..

in the video link below, the first one I made. You can see as it is scaled and keyframed the outer edge red line distorts. To not get it to distort, I could only use control points... but they can not be keyframed.. so no good to use, I need it to keyframe. In the second half of the video see squidfx gets around the distortion somehow and it is keyframeable. what exactly they are doing so the outer border don't distort, I dont know.

I was trying to build the same thing as squidfx but with OSC, but stopped once i seen that i could not figure out how to keep the red border from distorting as it scaled. The squid one works fine, but no OSC points.
