Converting files over to 10.1.1 from 10.0.8

Hi all,

Couple of questions:

Having an odd issue when I try to move an existing project from 10.0.8 to 10.1.1. I know I shouldn't move projects in progress, but everything's backed up on separate hard drives, etc and I had heard 10.1.1 was a bit more efficient for longer projects. So, I figured I would roll the dice.

Project is an hour long documentary that I've been working on for the past year with few issues.

I have the newest MacBook Pro retina w/16gb ram running Mavericks 10.9.1.

I noticed that after converting the files to 10.1.1, a few clips with audio have excessive levels, in that they clip over 0db for some reason. I think maybe the FCP compressor settings have been defaulted to "vocal" setting instead of the custom settings I created.

Can't find this issue anywhere else through google searches.

Also, I pretty much crash after a minute or so. Only 3rd party plug ins I am using are Deverb and (Neat Video - installed but I'm not sure I've applied it to any clips.) Was wondering if I need to reinstall the plugins with 10.1.1? Also have some old trial versions of a couple plug ins as well, but none are active on any of the clips.

Has anyone else come across this? Am I just relegated to 10.0.8 for the rest of this project?

I've restarted, fixed permissions, and deleted preferences.

Also was wondering how people are using libraries. My new library has the old event and the project contained within. But what about the other versions I've created for this film? I have about 10 older versions (before snapshot) that I want to keep, but don't want to have them load all at once in the new library.

So far I haven't migrated them over. But are you people creating new libraries for old version and then just keeping them closed? Or isn't it such a processor suck with the new version just to let them all load in the main library for this film?

Would love to hear some thoughts and advice if anyone has any notions.

Thanks a bunch,
Mark

I'd go to the legacy Project, Select All, create a new Project, Paste. See if that helps.

Next, know that just because everything from one drive gets put into one Library when you "update", you can break that Library up. Just part of the update process. Create the new Libraries you want, "move" (via File menu) the legacy Events to those new Libraries, as you desire.

Copy and paste the legacy project into a new project after I open it in 10.1.1?

I guess I couldn't copy it from 10.0.8, quit FCP and launch 10.1.1 and paste it there. Or could I? Hmmm...

I get what you're saying about the libraries. I guess I can just put all the old projects into a different library that I keep closed while working on the main project.

Thanks for your response.
