Adding dissolves between overlay clips

In my projects I use overlays often 5 to 6 different clips on top of each other to create the look I want. I want to ad dissolves between this one and the next one which has the same amount of overlays clips. I have tried to make compound clip but then I must shorten both clips to give space for the dissolve. Is the only option to ad dissolve to every single clip or is there another solution ?

You should be able to dissolve between two compound clips that consist of layers of clips. But of course you always need footage to dissolve to and from. You always have to give space for a dissolve because otherwise, what will a clip dissolve from (or to)? Another thing you can down is put one compound clip stacked on top of the other, and then dissolve out of the top clip to reveal the bottom clip. Either way it's the same: you need enough footage to dissolve.
