Still image preview gone

I recently moved a project from one machine to the other vis Event XML.

However, in doing so, a certain number of still images no longer showed any image - simply a black frame.
If I "reveal in Finder" it points to the correct still, and when I reimport the image, it shows up correctly.

I could find no way to repair or "re-recognize" the image. Trashed preferences, thumbnail cache, etc. but no fix.

Any thoughts?

Try reconnecting them. Even if they don't show offline, you can still do a Reconnect Media on things.
