Which ProRes for SD video

I have 2.5 hours of video from the 1960's currently on tape (4:3 TV broadcast).

I need to get it converted for use in FCPX. I assume the ideal format for me to ask for is ProRes but at 1GB per minute I simply cannot afford that much disk space. The BBC have offered to convert it to ProRes SD...what is that?

Any suggestions? (I was going to ask for ProRes LT).

Thanks.

ProRes SD is the ProRes codec used for standard-definition video sizes.

While ProRes 422 HD runs at 147 Mbit/s and ProRes LT HD runs at 100Mbit/s for HD resolution at 60i, ProRes HD runs at 42 Mbit/s for SD resolution at 29.97fps.

This means your ProRes 422 SD files will be roughly 3 times smaller in file size than a ProRes 422 HD file.

No, it isn't. It's full ProRes 422, but with SD dimensions. When you convert SD footage to ProRes 422 the codec automatically adapts to the SD frame size, resulting in smaller file sizes per second.

PAL ProRes video is 18 GB/hr, a little bigger than DV (13 GB/hr IIRC)

but for SD wouldn't LT be good enough?

Yes, LT would be best for SD originals. Smaller file sizes, yet plenty enough bit rate to maintain quality.
