Cannot open .fcp projects

Hi all. I am new around here.

I received from a company complete video projects to be dubbed and translated into my language.
I cannot open the .fcp file because it is somehow not associated with FCPX...
When I try "open wth" it says that FCPX will not open that "type" of file or it says that the file was made by a newer version of FCPX.
I am using FCP 10.0.9 ML
The company sent me a drive with the projects separated into folders (like raw folder, finals folder).

I am completely new to FCPX, as I used to work with Sony Vegas.

Any hints?

Thanks in advance,

Project and event folders have to be in specific locations in that version. They have to be inside Final Cut Projects and Final Cut Events folders are the root level of a secondary drive or inside your Movies folder. You don't open currentversion files. The application does. If you were only sent the currentversion file you're hosed because you're dealing with people who don't know how the application works.

It sounds to me like they sent you a Final Cut Pro version 7 (or earlier) file. Is the actual filename XXXXX.fcp? If so, you need a copy of Assisted Editing's 7toX to convert the project into a FCP X project/event. Note that you will need them to send to an exported Final Cut XML file of the project - you can't directly convert the .fcp file. You(or they) will need a working copy of FCP 7 to generate the XML file.
