7 to X project not referencing files...or is it? Mystery.

I've really progressed learning Fcp x thanks to a lot of help I've had here.

One source of confusion remains working with 7 to X XML conversions.

For a while I was having trouble importing media into a converted 7 project but I resolved that.

Today I created a new project in a library with one such converted 7 project because I was getting freezes and crashes during render in the original project. Copied contents from original timeline to new project.

The project in question is mostly psd still images. But here is the mystery. I noticed that in my events folder where all the images are, none of them say "Used" even though they are in the project timeline.
????

If I re-import a file to the event folder and then place that newly imported image into the timeline, the photo in the event browser says "Used".

Confused I am. Should I delete all the photos in the event and then re-import. I am wondering what my project is referencing if it is not referencing the photos in the event, since they are un-used.

Head spinning.

Hi Jonathan,

I would not worry about this too much. When you convert FCP7 projects to X not every bit of information always gets transferred in the process. That's not really due to 7toX, it's because of certain limitations in XML.

The Used Clips feature was only added for FCPX in 10.1, long after Xto7 was created. So it is very well possible that although your PSDs were flagged as "Used" in your FCP7 timeline, the "Used" flag did not get carried over in the XML conversion process.

If a clip in an Event isn't marked as Used although it is being used on the Timeline:

- Make sure that View > Show Used Media Ranges is selected in FCPX.

- Put your playhead at the start of a clip on your Timeline and press SHIFT+F. The clip will be revealed in its Event. Now press D to overwrite the clip on the timeline with it's original clip from the Event. After overwriting the clip in the Event should be marked as Used. Does that work?

Hi Ronny,

Thanks again for your time!

I see exactly what you are saying about the used thing. Understood.

I also tried to overwrite the image/clip in timeline as suggested, however I loose my motion attributes (if any), and the length needs to be reset or it will even overwrite into the next clip, unless there is some key command I'm not aware of, which is completely possible!

Thanks Ronny.
