Deleting events and projects on internal drive?

Another silly question to add to my myriad so far but, when I move events and projects to my new external hard rive(firewire 800), is it now ok to delete these files in my movies folder on my internal drive or is there anything else I should be doing?
Thanks in advance.

There are no silly questions :)

Hide the "Final Cut Projects" and the "Final Cut Events" folders on your internal drive (put them into a folder named "Hidden").

Then launch FCPX with your external drive connected and see if all moved Projects and Events on your external drive play fine in FCPX. If they do you can safely delete these Project and Events from your internal drive.

Unfortunately it says no events on disk, I can import files from the external hard drive as a new event only.

I've hidden the events and projects in hidden folders, the projects and events turn up in FCPx, but the project I'm working on is now missing events for a lot of the clips and is till giving me the spinning ball even with the external firewire drive.

I'm seeing the events and projects in my external hard drive in FCPx, the spinning ball is still happening on the project I'm working on, all other projects or versions of this project are working fine and I can edit properly.
