Hi,

We have sent the following to the Feedback form for FCPX. Has anyone else experienced this? :

We have stumbled upon a severe bug in 10.1.1. We have shared media on a SAN. In a random fashion, FCPX decides to delete files from footage or from After effects, without any predictable manner. Once this was triggered by opening the relevant library of a project with the media drive being offline. A footage file and a graphics exported file was offline - due to it being deleted over LAN. We thought it was the SMB2 protocol being problematic and fell back to AFP, but then it happened with two files that were located on the SAN to which the Mac Pro was connected to directly with Fibre, so SMB2 was not active. It deleted 2 files again. Thankfully we could recreate all four cases and are keeping extra backups at the moment. But please look into this ASAP!

Cheers,
Nick

Hey Nick,

Thank you for posting this. We are working entirely with shared media off an Xsan. So far I haven't noticed any issues but your warning is appreciated.

Were the files effectively deleted from the Original Media folder on the SAN, or were they just offline on the workstation?

Hi Ronny... We use external media, so the files were deleted from the finder level inside the project folder. The symlinks to the media were still there and showing offline within FCPX. We are not on XSAN at the moment though. We have configured the SAN to connect to only one station direct with fibre... No fibre switch.

I have asked around and I no-one has noticed any similar issues here. As the symlinks were still in your Original Media folder this indeed means that this is not an operator error and the external files have been deleted at Finder level. It's good you have reported this and yes, feedback to Apple about this is imperative.

happened again! with a large project, when relinking media over network (SMB2). All media that was relinked (mp3,mov,mxf) etc... was deleted. This is crazy.

Nick,

Have you run some disk utilities on that drive where the media is disappearing? Also what happens if when you relink you choose to copy to the library?
