My first post ; Can someone advise me of the issues with updating to FCPx 10.08. I have heard that there are issues with exporting, is this correct and how can it be overcome ?

You really should not do that. The newest FCPX version is 10.0.1, it's available for free and it's so much better than 10.0.8. So I see no reason whatsoever for updating to 10.0.8.

I think Ronny meant to say that the latest version is 10.1.1 
However, you need to upgrade your Mac to Mavericks (Mac OS 10.9), which is also free.
