Does the amount of plugins installed affect FCPX performance? was created by DC
Hello all!
Just a quick question about plugins : does the amount of plugins INSTALLED in Final Cut Pro X affect it's performance?
I'm not talking about amount of plugins applied to a clip, obviously that would affect performance. I'm talking about the sheer volume of plugins installed on the system. I'm a plugin junkie and have installed hundreds of different effects. I'm wondering if it's worth going through and deleting some of the ones I never use, if it would help FCP run more smoothly.
So even if I have none of these effects applied to any clip in my timeline, does them just sitting on my system take up resources (aside from probably adding to boot time)
Thanks for the help!

Hi,
The more effects you have is the more slow you will get your FCP X. I have approximately 3600 effects. To load the effects window is for sure a good 20 seconds spinning ball.
To make a research then to go back to all the effects is the same.
To get a nice fluid FCP X, i'll advise you a clean install of even your OS then FCP X on a lately formatted hard drive.
Install what you need and try to avoid too much effects will surely give you a faster workflow.
Regards,

Hi. My name is Don and I'm a collector of effects. I have MANY and don't even use them but I can never seem to pass up something for free. I did pose the question to Phillip hod gets of Event manager X fame to see if there could be an app that would do the same for effects. now wouldn't that be cool? Otherwise the more the effects the longer it takes to open the window for sure.

Digital Rebellion has a great application with this function included in Pro Maintenance Tool
