I used to use Event Manger X, but since 10.1 I believe, this app no longer works. I thought I read somewhere the same concept can now be down from within FCPX, but I don't see where. Only that you can close Library's. Does this mean each individual project needs to be in it's own library so they can be closed?
I'm running an older iMac and having 5-10 events/projects open at once really slows down my performance.

One thing you can do is move certain projects and events to a new library, and then close the new library. Just to be extra safe, copy them rather than move, then check to see if everything copied OK to the new library, then delete them from the old library.
The library structure is now more like FCP7 in that you really only have media you want for the project you are working on.

That's correct! On top of having to manually close each project, you must click on it in the 'Libraries' pane and then go to 'File' and close each one. I have a project that is 3.5TB and it takes a while to load RAM before I can go to 'File' and close it. Imagine doing that for many projects.
I think Apple Devs could have done a more streamlined process in closing/opening projects to show in 'Libraries'. A toggle (not unlike some apps in iOS) that allows you to edit the current showing/not showing projects without have to load to RAM would be great. This would speed up multiple Library workflow.

This is great advice. I have made this a habit for all files on any machine. In the event that you had a power outage or "accident" during any large file moves, it cold get corrupted.

Damn, that's kind of a pain to have to manually close each one. Especially on top of the fact that Event Manager X doesn't work. Thanks for the info guys!

Personally I think libraries are a vast improvement over what they did before. It's really no different now than FCP7, you only open libraries (projects) you want open, and just point to media files. You don't want them open, you close them.
It's so much easier to avoid accidentally having every file duplicated several times causing a disorganized mess. I'm glad I can now within the app open and close projects without some confusing workaround.
Event manager X was a huge help, but it was an imperfect solution to an imperfect events/projects structure.
