Audio Editing Process for FCPX

Hello! I enjoyed the series about color correcting in FCPX.

www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/tutorials/477-a...-grading-within-fcpx

I was wondering if there is something similar for handling the audio portion of the edit within FCPX. I asked Lord Google and all I get are some light weight videos but nothing focusing on the process like with color correction.

Does anyone know if something like this is out there?

Thanks!

Sergeson,
Audio editing is getting better with each FCPX update, but could still use improvement and tools, like a mixer (Please). If you need to really manipulate the audio, you are better to use something like LogicPro.
Having said that, some of the MacBreak Studio videos have some good instructions on using the new audio tools in FCPX. About 3 vids back I believe. Peter posts them here or you can go to the MacBreak Studio channel on YouTube.
Hope this helps, Greg

Thanks for the response!

I do watch the MacBreak studios regularly and I know the tutorials to which you are referring.

I was looking for more like a list of instructions or steps when it came to doing audio, similar to the link I attached in my original note.

Something like:
  1. 1. Noise Gate
  2. 2. Compressor
  3. 3. Equalizer
  4. 4. ????

Something along those lines.

macProVideo.com has a video course coming soon about working with audio in FCPX, and it will cover some of the more common filters used daily.

If you have access to Lynda.com, I would highly recommend these titles by Brian Lee White. (if you are not a lynda.com subscriber you can get a few days free and probably finish one or two of these courses). These are app independent and primarily deal with music, so he will be using ProTools and Logic, but the principals are what you need to understand and Brian does a fantastic job with these.

By the way FCPX has a great advantage over other DAWs when it comes to things like using gates and limiting because unlike other DAWs FCPX shows you exactly what is happening with your waveform so you can see the changes even before you hear them.

Rippletraining has a tutorial on exactly that. I don't know if they have updated it to 10.1 already though.

Yes, I've already reached out to Steve at RippleTraining and he says that an audio tutorial is on the way for the new update. I'll wait to purchase the tutorials after that.

For now, I'll keep searching for a web page, blog article, etc. that simply lists the steps for doing audio editing in films.

tpayton - your right, that the waveform visually reflects what's being done to it, is truly amazing.

As a longtime composer and logic user (since 1.6), I've never seen anything like it and would pay to see that in a Logic update.
