Is my FCPX UI abnormally laggy? Video inside... was created by Doug Suiter
I'm starting to feel that the lagginess of my UI is getting in the way of my editing in a big way. I have shot a short video showing the delay i am experiencing. Is this considered acceptable? Is anyone else experiencing this?
Note that snapping is off no background tasks are being performed. No other apps are running and I'm using a late 2012 iMac with 2GB GFX card, 32GB ram, an SSD system disk at about 60% capacity and a Raid R6 thunderbolt at about half capacity.

That's pretty laggy, especially considering you have 32GB RAM. Usually when it gets like this, I'll have to reload FCPX. How long is your timeline, and how many clips do you have? Was this project converted from versions prior to 10.1?
I think FCPX still has some memory leak issues that will slow it down over time. The other thing I do to minimize this is turn off auto rendering.

Thanks for replying. I came back here to post my solution (pasted from another discussion).
Note that I also noticed that my titles were also very laggy as I typed leading me to investigate that. Below is what I discovered:
"OK - for those reading and interested in the outcome I have a DOOOZY of a result. So after i typed about the sluggish titles in the post above I created a fresh project to test and indeed the titles still lagged.
Then it occurred to me to try creating a fresh project in another library and test the titles in that. Behold - snappy titles. Hm...
Then it occurred to me to create a fresh project in the same library but in a different Event. Behold - snappy titles! What if I move the existing project with sluggish titles out of the Event into another. Snappy titles!!
Then I went back to my event called "Edits" where the titles are sluggish and so is the UI (the original reason for this post) and I moved the project I am editing out of that event and into a freshly created event. Behold!!! Snappy editing!
Don't get me wrong it's not the holy grail but the delay that has stopped me from editing is back to the realm of reasonable considering the complexity of the project.
TL;DR - moving the edit to a fresh event solved the issue - and also solved a lagging issue I was having with titles. Still zero idea why"

Was the events/projects updated from an earlier version of FCPX as haysoos123 asked?
I'm curious if that's the case. I'm noticing the same thing on older projects.

Yes indeed, it was updated from 10.0.9 to 10.1 and again to 10.1.1

I think that's your culprit. Every time they release a major update things like what you describe happen. It's the convert from 10.0.9 that most likely did it.

Interesting... knowing that is going to save me a *lot* of frustration.
