What's the deal with Render files?

Hello,

Is there a way to avoid saving so many render files?

Even when I delete them inside of FCP, they don't seem to go away. Can I manually drag them to the trash?

I also have a tremendous amount of "Backup" files. Can I drag those to the trash?

Thanks for your help!!

Eddie

They should be deleting if you tell FCPX to delete the render files. One thing you may be missing is that Events themselves can have render files also, so perhaps try to delete the event render files also and see if they're cleared. Manually trashing renders generally isn't a huge problem, but you should be able to clear them all from within the program.

You can delete backup files if you want, but I'd only delete the oldest ones first and go from there. You never know when you may need an older backup.

Thanks Haysoos,

You mean to select the "Events folder" and then "Delete Event Render Files", right?

I've been doing that, but I'll keep at it.

Take care, Eddie

Event Render files are thumbnail media and peaks data used to generate you video thumbnails and your audio waveforms on you timeline.

This means that as soon as you open a project these files will always be recreated instantly. You can clean them up by only deleting the unused ones, but it does not make much sense to delete all of them unless you have a problem with your project thumbnails, or unless you are archiving your production.
