Relinking trashes proxy media

Relinking trashes proxy media was created by Ellard
Hey guys,
I'm trying to move a project to a faster drive.
I copied my external media to the faster drive and of course when I open the project without my old slower drive connected FCP X says the media is offline, this is expected. But when I relink the missing media to my new drive, FCP X trashes all the proxy media.
I don't remember this being an issue before, is this because FCP X wants us to use the consolidate feature now?
I'd prefer to keep my external media organised the way it is (with the file structure from the card) instead of dumped in one big folder like consolidate likes to do.
The referenced media is 1.5TB and I have about 300GB of proxies, so it would take quite a while to recode all this.
Any suggestions?

This is not normal behavior, but if your library is indeed intact after the relink (meaning, no corruption or anything else strange), you should be able to pull the proxies out of the trash and put them back in the library where they would normally go. The only other time I've seen proxies put in the trash is when you try to relink your clips to the proxies themselves, which is an absolute no-no. In version 10.1+, you can't really do this because you would have to go inside a library to select the proxies, and you can't do that from the relink dialogue.

Turns out FCP X doesn't *always* trash the transcoded media, although I haven't found a pattern yet...
Putting the proxies from the trash back in the event doesn't seem to work, FCP X rejects them like a bad transplant.
I'm relinking to (hopefully) exact copies of the originals, but I think FCP X sees some kind of difference that I don't see. It's very strange... Especially because I copied the whole lot to my new drive, but FCP X only trashes the proxies on some of the files and leaves them intact with others....
Even stranger: I made a test Project with some of the files and then generated proxies. I then relinked them to the copies on my new drive and it works. Yay!
I now go to my actual project, find the same file I used to test this with and repeat. Now FCP X deletes the proxy again...
Weird....
