FCPX 10.1.1 Non-Responsive

Hello all-

Here are the specs:

FCPX 10.1.1
iMac 3.4GHz i7 20GB RAM
Mavericks 10.9.1

Video of problem: vimeo.com/86380551

When clicking on a clip to play in the viewer I get the spinning beachball of death. It releases, then locks up again. Same thing happens in the timeline but less frequently.
The current project is AVCHD optimized to ProRes 1080p.

Installed FCP on new clean install of Mavericks. Wiped the drive and did a complete clean install.

Pro Maintenance Tools is installed and only once did a crash result in a warning about version of ProKit. Most current version is installed.

Only two Libraries created so far, on external LaCie 3TB Thunderbolt drive.

Tried a new user account and the normal remedies. Tried a LaCie SSD drive and FCP seemed a bit more responsive without the total freezes, but still got the beachball all the time.

So devastated by this downtime that I can't even use angry words. I know a lot of you understand so why scream at you?? Looking for any possible ideas. I thought I would post before I try downgrading back to 10.0.9. God knows what that will be like.

Thank you.

I admire you for staying so zen about all this ;)

That's an exceptional issue you are having. The video plays on while your playhead stays put and the UI does not respond anymore. I have seen this once. Usually it indicates a hardware problem or an OS problem, so downgrading FCPX probably won't help much.

1. Check your RAM to make sure you don't have a defective RAM module (Apple > About this Mac)
2. Check your system drive. Open Disk Utility, click the First Aid tab and select Repair Disk.

If none of the above helps: contact Apple using the FCPX feedback form. They usually are very responsive.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for your reply Ronny. I'm going to check out the RAM and overall drive health.

Do you get responses from the feedback form? Really? I thought that was a one way street?

Oh, it certainly isn't. Many times, and especially if you are experiencing something unusual, someone from Apple will respond. They are taking any feedback very seriously.
