Is there a way to prevent transitions from also crossfading audio? I know I can detatch the audio but that can get messy and I'd rather not be required to do that if possible. Surely Apple thought of a way to do this, right?

You don't have to detach the audio, simply expand it and then you can apply a video only transition.

I think that detaching the audio would probably be easier. I was hoping for some checkbox that said something like "do not transition audio unless an audio transition is used" somewhere.
Anyway thanks for letting me know of another option!

No. Do not detach. You can expand clips with a keystroke. You can if you want assign keystroke to expand and collapse all clips. Detach is just wrong.

Tom's right.
I have a multibutton mouse that I use the back button to expand all audio and the forward button to collapse all audio.
So all I do is go to the transition point, hit the back button, add the dissolve and then hit the collapse button. DONE.

OK when you guys said "expand" I thought you meant actually expanding it (like an S cut). The misunderstanding is mine. Thanks for the info!
