Is it possible in FCP X to export/share only part of a timeline, say between two markers?

Unfortunately not. My workaround is cutting and pasting the section I want into another project. It's a couple extra steps, but it gets the job done.

Edit: Thanks again Tom, I didn't know that had been added back. I was completely wrong.

Sure. Mark I/O points on the primary storyline. That range selection will be exported when you share. You'll see this confirmed at the bottom of the export window.
