Copy Only Used Media in 10.1.1 was created by Craig R
Hi Everyone
In the older Version Of FCPx 10.9 and backwards I could Make a Copied Project but I could tell FCPx only to copy the used media.
So if I had lets say 100 clips in the event but only used 45 clips on the Time Line (sorry Story Line) when I copied the Project it would only copy the 45 used media files over to the new Project.
I know I can copy an event in FCPx 10.1 to a new Library and leave the Transcoded media behind and only copy the Original media but it Copies all 100 clips not just the used 45 clips on the Timeline.
Has the function of copying the used clips only Vanished as I can't seam to find it.
I used this function all the time to manage my used media.
Thanks for any pointers

How did you copy the project? I'm not seeing the behavior you describe. I would actually like to know how to make that happen.

In Version 10.0.9 I right Clicked on the Project I wanted to Duplicate and selected Duplicate Project
And I used to get the option of
In Version 10.1.1 I have to Copy The Event Containing a Project but get no Options to Just Copy Used Clips like in Ver 10.0.9.
I will Grab some Screen shot from my other MAC with Ver 10.1.1

Hi Craig,
This feature still exists in 10.1., but it's done in a completely different way.
To duplicate a Project with only used clips you now create a new Library on any drive and you drag the Project onto the Event in the new Library. This will duplicate the Project, and only the media that you have used in the Project will be copied over to the new Library. Render files will never be copied over, Optimized and Proxy media will only be copied over if you select this in the window that pops up. Here's an example:
This is an Event with 4 clips, I have used 2 clips in the Project:
I create a new Library, which automatically creates an empty Event:
I drag the Project over to the new Library and I get the option to include or not include the Optimized and/or Proxy media:
FCPX duplicates the Project into the new Library and it only duplicates the clips that I have used in the project:
The only gripe i still have with this workflow it that it duplicates the entire clips you have used, and not only the actual parts of the clips. Just like it did in 10.0.9 and earlier. If you have a clip of 5 minutes and you only use 5 seconds of it in your Project FCPX will copy over the entire 5 minutes. Not good.
Now that FCPX can show used media ranges we may see this improve over time. For true trimmed media backups it should only duplicate the used ranges, preferably with the option of adding handles.

But there still is no way to copy a project with all referenced events, which really should be a priority. Or is the assumption that all the events in the library are referenced? That would be an unfortunate assumption.

Thanks Ronny At least I know its possible but as Tom says shame it destroys the event structure.
I know I could key word the clips and files but would prefer the event structure to remain.
Thanks For the pointers Guys Very Helpful

I don't see the difference. In 10.0.9 when you duplicated a Project with used clips only this always created a single new Event into which the used media where copied. So the original Event structure was changed as well, just like in 10.1.
As to the Duplicate Project with Referenced Events feature: I agree this should be re-installed. You can do this in 10.1, but it's not as straightforward anymore.

All referenced media (not all media in all events) is copied to the new library. But... the event structure is not copied. I created a new library and copied an existing project from some other library to the default event in the new library. The media referenced in that project lived it two different events from the event containing the project. The media was copied (technically, the links were copied) to the same event in the new library where I placed the project.
So I get only the clips used, but no event structure.
