Mysterious "Syntax of value for attribute interp of timept" dialog box

This is just in case anyone is googling for it.

I exported a Project XML file, and tried to reimport it. I got a dialog box saying:

Syntax of value for attribute interp of timept is not valid
Value "" for attribute interp of timept is not among the enumerated set"

I opened the XML file in a text editor and searched for two quotes with nothing in between them: ""

Sure enough, there was a timept tag that had an empty 'interp' attribute. I inserted the word "linear" between the quotes, saved it again, and it would then import into FCPX OK.

It is sad, but worth knowing, that FCPX can sometimes generate XML that it cannot, itself, read.

If you're passing it through another tool (I was using FCPXchange) it can be tempting to assume that the tool has produced invalid XML, when in fact, it was an FCPX bug.

Just wanted to say that I had the exact same error happen with me today. Thanks for the thread. Edited the XML file and it will now import. Just a single interp value entry was empty.

This has been reported by several people using my XML tools – including me.

They on the first step were blaming me to handle FCPXMLs badly. It turned out that it hadn't be the case but was a FCP X problem.
In several cases you even don't get a detailed error message like the above. So it is sometimes difficult to figure out the error.

The more people send bug reports to Apple (including examples) the more likely it will be to have these bugs fixed.
