Replace clip but keep FX was created by damiangrady
Is it possible to replace a clip on the timeline but retain all of the effects and keyframes that were associated with the clip being replaced?

If you're replacing it with a very similar clip (same resolution, framerate etc), you might find that FCPXchange will do it for you.
telemarq.com/products/fcpxchange/
That's not its real intended use case, but there's no harm in trying!

You can't copy the clip, replace it, and then use paste effects or paste attributes?

Tom,
Is there a copy/paste attributes at all in X, like there was in 7?
If not, how do you apply a series of effects to a bunch of selected clips?
Good Sunday to you.

It's similar to 7's paste attributes with selectable parameters.

Another way of approaching the problem is to use an adjustment layer. Apply your effects to the adjustment layer instead of individual clips and then as long as the adjustment layer remains above the clip(s) you're replacing, the effects will stay in place.

Hi Jonathan,
-Select the clip you want the effects to copy from, go to Edit>Copy (Cmd+C),
-Select the clip(s) you want to copy the effects to
-Go to Edit>Paste Attributes (Shift+Cmd+V) to choose from a dialog which effects you want to paste and if you want to maintain the timing or if you want the effects to be retimed in order to fit the length of the clip you paste on to
-Alternatively go to Edit>Paste Effects (Opt+Cmd+V) to paste effects without choosing

Thanks rjvddoes,
Good to know!!!
Grailiz, I wasn't aware that you could make adjustment layers in X. I'll have to look for that.
Thank You.
Actually, I just found this. I guess I'll be purchasing Motion in the near future:

Out of curiosity, what is the download?
I've only used the Motion title trick to create the Adjustment Layer.

Create a new FCPX Title template in Motion.
Remove the Text layer.
Save with the name "Adjustment Layer".
That's all it is...
