Hello,
according to info at L. Jordan's website holding the shift key while opening fcp should launch the app without any libraries opened:
"Press and hold the Shift key, while clicking the FCP X icon in the dock, and Final Cut will launch without opening any libraries. Since FCP normally remembers everything you were working on when you last quit the application, this is a fast way to close everything and start fresh.
NOTE: This can be a very helpful trouble-shooting technique if you have a library that just refuses to open."
It was published on Jan 26, so it should apply to the latest version. It doesn't work for me though - fcp opens just as usual.
Does this work for you?

First, the application absolutely cannot open without any libraries. That just doesn't happen. If there are no recent libraries, like after trashing prefs, it will create one in the Movies folder called Untitled. I just leave one there that it opens after you trash prefs.
Shift-click in the Dock does nothing.
Option-click opens the library dialog window before the application finishes loading.

I am still stuck with FCPX 10.0.9 so I know little about the recent version. If you have no event no projects to update. Will FCP 10.1 not open at all. Or will FCP 10.1 create an untitled library at start up ? Maybe a dumb question.

Actually, a reader response on Larry's site mentions the Shift key, I think. I tested it on 3 different Macs, it does nothing.
