Dont underestimate the inertia inherent with pros sticking with what they know.

In audio post, Nuendo has been a long way ahead of Pro-tools for years, technically and workflow, but it's always suffered from being the new guy, and to an extent from being associated with hobbyist musician/producers (Cubase). Both apps are in fact right at the top of what's currently possible and have way better workflow.

Where I am at in Berlin Germany I am seeing a lot of Premiere which is weird. From my perspective (Old FCP war horse,) Premiere is like After Effects for video editing. I suspect people have AE already and think that integrating with Premiere makes sense!?! i.e. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know.

I am inclined to agree with Julian when he says.

“Adobe programs just have way too much going on in the UI.”

I have been playing with Premiere recently and what drives me nuts, about it is, despite/in-spite, all those drop down menus, I can not get it to do what I want it to do. Now I am the last one to chant, I love dumbed down programs but FCPX dumbs things down the right way!!! And lets me get on with the job.

By the way, the few examples of FCPX that I have seen implemented so far has been so badly implemented that I ask myself why did they bother!?! Almost makes me, want to weep

As to the comment "dumb down". What the heck is a computer made to do for us in the first place? Make things easier, do the mundane, difficult stuff in the background, and allow us to be more productive and creative.

Thus, anyone who says FCPX dumbs down editing is absolutely correct in concept but not in intention, and needs to understand they are semantically incorrect. FCPX makes editing easier, that is not making it more stupid. Computers are supposed to make things easier (dumbed down), that's why they were created! If an NLE made things harder with a major update, what the hell is the point in that?

So yes, FCPX did make things easier, so we as editors could be more productive, more creative, and hone our craft, rather than be IT software techs.

So, dumb down? Hell yes! That is EXACTLY what computers are supposed to do!

Next time someone says this to you face to face, tell them to demand their business accountant stop using software and go back to a pencil, ledger book, and an abacus, because that computer in fact dumbs down accounting, thus makes it not professional, by their own definition. And if they reply they don't have a business accountant, tell them they're obviously not professional enough for you to have this conversation with. LMAO!!!!
