Audio out of sync after import... was created by RMD Pro
I've seen issues of this all over the web but can't seem to resolve my issue.
I'm importing footage from a DV tape using a Sony HDV deck (#GV-HD700) into FCP X, 10.1.
Footage was shot on a Sony HDV Camera (HVR-A1J) about ten years ago. On the deck it's grand, stays in sync as I'm viewing it, but as I watch it coming in, and when viewing later in FCPX or QT it's out of sync at the end by at least a few seconds.
I can see the clip shows the same audio rate, 32Khz, in the clip info in FCP, and in QT. I assume that my system brought it in right, but don't know how to change that if it hasn't. I haven't sat behind FCP in over 10 yrs, since I did a couple documentaries. So, I'll call myself a newbie. So... please include details as to how to get to settings!
All import footage is stored on a USB 3 external 2.5" drive hooked to my MacBook Air 1.7 Ghz i7 mac running Mavericks.
Many thanks for your thoughts on this.

There are no settings. FCP will not ingest 32k properly. Try using iMovie or QuickTime.

Using Quicktime now... seems to be importing nicely.
What is best for my export from there to FCPX?
Many thanks!

I would use MPEG Streamclip or Compressor to convert to QuickTime with the audio at 48k.

Converting now.
I'm surprised to see that when I imported with FCPX the size of the file was 12gb, but with QT it's 2gb... any idea why?
No audio issues on viewing in QT. Thanks for your insights

No idea why that would be. I'd have to look at it.

Could it be that in the FCPX import preferences you have "Create Optimized Media" checked? In that case FCPX will create ProRes 422 files from your DV footage. When you capture DV over QuickTime your files will stay in the DV format. As ProRes 422 files are about 5 to 6 times bigger than DV files this could explain the difference.

Don't think FCP optimized I frame codecs. If you try to optimize DV in the browser it's grayed out.

Yes, that's correct. Then I do wonder where the size difference came from. Or did FCPX perhaps consider DV with 32-bit audio not as a standard format?
