This is what I would like to do. Is is possible or an other tricks?
I want to keep only selections of clips in my event browser.
I have large hard drives which have become not so large. Ultimately, I want to send to trash useless media on my hard drive and keep only the 10 secs out of that 1 min of footage.
Trim the clip in an event basically. I know about making a portion of the clip a favorite and using keywords, but this is about hard drive space as I prefer...up until now, to ingest every clip and edit in fcpx, but I can't understand how I can not figure this out.
I have no answers online anywhere.
Help? Thanks.
Matt.

Hi Matt,
Short answer: no, and there are no tricks.
Being able to archive/consolidate a project with only the media you have actually used, preferably with the option to include handles, has been a long-standing feature request for FCPX. IMO it is not really easy to implement this using the AV/Foundation framework, but I think they will find a way. So fill in that feedback form!
Until then the only thing you can do if you only need to use small parts of long shots is to trim these shots in the Import window prior to importing.

Well, that's ok. Thanks for your reply. I searched some time before posting, so happy to have a quick answer. Now I can move on, but I will submit a feedback form. I can only imagine how wonderful this would be to be able to achieve.....but good luck the developers.

You have made a good point, and I think this feature is high on the wish-list.
With current FCPX media management you already can archive a Project with only the media files that have actually been used in the Project Timeline, but if you have used 10 seconds of a 2 minute file the entire file will be copied over to the archive. I'm sure they are working on improving this, and eventually we will get there
