What did you export? Which event? Or did you export a project?

I exported the project and the events associated with the timeline clips all got duplicated. Is that normal?

If I export a project XML, I get the project and a new event with the name of the project and the clips in it. I also get doubled up events, but the events are empty. Not sure what that's about.

Yes, importing an Event XML file will create a new Event.

It always has been like this since FCPX was released with XML support.
Was somehow similar with FCP, but there had been more options.
