FCPX 10.1 Now it works... was created by Voletrouser
Since the launch of FCPX I've been making a new folder on the external hard drive then opening a project in FCP7 to transcode my MXF files (Camera is the XF300 and occasionally the 5D). I would then go to FCPX and start a new project importing the Apple prorez 422 files then do my edit.
Now with libraries in FCPX the system works, I create a Library for each new project and import direct from my CF card. The library, on the drive, now contains all my footage, edit and also any extra music or sound FX used in one place, much easier to move or delete. Not sure why I'm writing this but well done Apple & FCP.com. s.

Along a similar line, I have some background graphics, both still and animated, that I've accumulated over the years. I've made a Library that holds those (or rather pointers to them) so they are easier to preview and pick from. When I want something I just open that Library, then close it when I'm done.
I'm sure I could have been doing this all along, but somehow in 10.1 it finally occurred to me. And it's probably more feasible now anyway.

Interesting - I've been doing the FCP7 transcoding trick with C300 rushes, as the FCPX MXF plug-in from Canon appears to be broken in 10.1? Or is that just me? I'm applying the 10.1.1 fix as I type, though...
UPDATE: Well, I'll be... It's working. 10.1.1 - no need for $250 of software. Thank goodness for that!

I never saw it not work, but I use the XF100 - the codec is different from the Cx00 series.
For anyone with the XFs, FCPX imports the clips native, not even giving the option to transcode. I really like using the XF Utility to archive clips (or portions of clips using Create Virtual Media). You can also import directly from that archive as well as from the CF card.
And to get the plugin from Canon, it may show there is no plugin if the site detects Mavericks. Just change the OS popup to 10.8 and it will then let you download it.
