importing still photos, trimming, crop and ken burns...don't work right after 10.1

Am I going crazy here? I used to just place an image on the timeline, go right to Crop > Ken Burns, and the image, usually much larger than the video frame, would scale down so I can see the whole thing, and then I'd get the red and green squares to edit the start and end of Ken Burns. Done.

Now, I place the image, hit, say, transform, I don't even see the 4 corners so I can grab one and scale the thing down to fit.

The whole thing is goofed up. There's simply no way at all I can even use the Ken Burns effect, as all I see when I turn it on is a giant enlarged version of my placed image, with no green or red squares. They are likely there, but so big, I can't even grab one of them.

Something has definitely changed. And it's a mess. What am I missing here?

Check to see what your Spatial Conform is set to. if it is set to "Fill or None" try changing it to "Fit"

Yeah, that's it. It's set to none, and fit returns the behavior.

Every time I insert a new still, it goes back to None. Any way to make fit "stick"?

It is my understanding that it "should" stay to your last setting. I am glad that worked. Maybe someone else has a fix for it staying to "Fit"

It's maddenning really. I'm opening older projects, and suddenly nothing works right. One little thing like that. You saved me on this one. I spent an hour trying to figure it all out. Thanks a bunch.
