Consolidating Library files does not consolidate all files

I have a large project, well over 500 clips that I need in 2 places, mac pro and a external drive for a laptop so 2 editors can be working at the same time. I figured I can copy the event from the library on the macpro to a new library on the ext drive. Once that's done, I consolidate the event files to a separate folder on the ext drive. When I go to open the library on the laptop fromt the ext drive, it's missing about 18 files that are still being referenced on the macpro. When I reconnect the drive to mac pro and try and consolidate again, it says the files already exist in that location.

Same thing happens on transcoding to proxy media. Separate library, about 1/3 of the files didn't transcode in the library, finally had to hit the transcode button 3 times for all event files to become proxies.

Before working with these libraries, I've been having other issues with multicams, ballooning projects and exporting issues. Fcpx 10.1 has been riddled with bugs for me and I'm working off a clean install of Mavericks and I have to repair permissions and trash preferences almost daily. Anyone else having similar issues?

Is the media on the Mac Pro to started managed or external? Make sure it's not a mix of the two or you will need the consolidate the Mac Pro first.

Yeah it's a mix, the library is fairly large so I have it spread out over a few drives. But I don't see how that would fix anything since I'm working off the copy event/library on the external drive. That's kind of the whole purpose of consolidating.

I sounds like the copy is using symlinks to something in some other location. Perhaps you can figure out what's going on based on which clips have the problem. Generally it's a good idea when working with external media to keep it in a single location rather than scattered in multiple locations, which can always causes problems.

I manually added the missing files to the external drive and will relink the clips when I get back to the laptop. Thanks for the tip on working with media either externally or managed. I will work with one or the other going forward.
